Communiqué

Montréal, December 14, 2016 – “The Information and Referral Centre of Greater Montréal and Centraide of Greater Montreal are very proud to upload today the data base listing more than 3000 social and community groups of the agglomeration of Montréal following the City of Montréal’s decision to support this project. This initiative comes within the framework of the deployment of the 211 service,” indicated Mrs. Pierrette Gagné, Executive director of IRCGM.

“For a long time, social and community organizations workers, social counsellors, those working in health care and researchers have been asking for the uploading of our data base that will be updated continuously, “continued Mrs. Gagné.

This reference tool was becoming essential to help and guide people rapidly and securely towards resources close to their homes. It will help the lives of everyone, particularly of citizens, since they will have access to it 24 hours a day, which is why we have given financial support to the project, “pointed out Mrs. Monique Vallée, member of the Executive Committee of Montréal, responsible for the Social Development, Community and Homelessness.

The Information and Referral Centre of Greater Montreal are co-leaders in this project and have committed themselves at the Je vois Montréal event to the implementation of the 211 phone and Web service in the Greater Montréal area during 2017. Centraide/United Way Canada has obtained in 2001 the authorization of the CRTC to reserve the 211 phone number for info reference Canadian centres. “Centraide of Greater Montréal who participates to the financing of 211 is a key partner on the project and is responsible for the deployment of 211 in Québec, and of its quality standards.

The 211 service is a social info reference service that exists everywhere in Canada, in many American states and in Québec, in the Capitale nationale region, in Chaudière-Appalaches, in the RCM of Haute-Yamaska and in Laval.

This initiative is also part of Québec ami des aînés (QADA) of the ministère de la Famille du Québec
