Up With Women is a registered Canadian charity serving women in both official languages across Canada. After successfully expanding across Ontario we have opened branches in Montreal and Vancouver.

Since 2009, Up With Women has been delivering poverty reduction services for recently homeless and at-risk women. Year over year, clients experience positive change in employment and income within 12 months in the program. Founded by Lia Grimanis, a formerly-homeless, teenage survivor of violence, our organization’s aim is to help vulnerable women to overcome the significant barriers that women face when living in deep poverty, and build a sustainable pathway toward prosperity and self-reliance as quickly as possible. UWW is seeking to fill the Montreal position of Program Manager.

Working under the supervision of the CEO and Director of Operations and Programs, the Program Manager administers and executes all operations involving the Montreal branch of UWW. The role involves the development, management and support of regional clients, partner agencies, volunteers and major donors as well as reporting back to head office located in Toronto.

Responsabilities:

  • Development and management of relationships with volunteers, funders, community groups and agencies.
  • Ensure timely and adequate follow up with staff, clients, graduates, donors, partners, community agencies, etc.
  • Meet key program targets which include but are not limited to number of coaches or clients in the program.
  • Deliver key program activities, including and not limited to, outreach, recruitment, interviewing, vetting, training, onboarding, client and volunteer support, program events, and program conclusion.
  • Assist in local fundraising, including presenting, grant and proposal writing, setting up major donor meetings, and fundraising or thank you events as needed.
  • Coordinate complex operational services including, but not limited to, scheduling, planning, preparing documents and detailed project plans.
  • Review and analyze correspondence and documents received and, when required, synthesize the required documents and propose actions.
  • Prepare letters, reports, or other documents in both official languages.
  • Upon request, attend meetings to which the President & CEO is invited and ensure follow-up.
  • Cooperate directly with other members of the UWW team to obtain the information necessary for the preparation of documents for the President & CEO and Director.
  • Set priorities and recognize emergencies to be acted on and carry out these priorities.
  • Provide any other support requested by the President & CEO or Director, and be available for special events and other duties when required.

Particular working conditions

  • 21-35 hours a week;
  • Position based in Montreal;
  • Access to occasional office and meeting space, majority of work done from home
  • Domestic travel, notably to Toronto and/or Ottawa may be required;
  • One-year contractual position with possibility of extension.

Required qualifications and experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the position will be considered an asset;
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience;
  • Previous experience working in Not For Profits, Social Impact Organizations, Charitites, Government or Community Agencies, including internships, is highly desired;
  • Lived experience is considered an asset;
  • High level of interest in social impact.

Work area knowledge and skills

  • Bilingual (French and English) both verbal and written;
  • Be highly proficient in the use of the main office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook);
  • Have strong social media skills, notably Twitter and Facebook;
  • Possess excellent research, writing, and editing skills;
  • Excellent organizational abilities: coordination, priority management and multi-tasking;
  • Knowledge of file classification systems and electronic filing will be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of CRM systems, such as SalesForce will be considered an asset.

  • Strategic planning: ability to re-prioritized between competing deadlines and goals, strong aptitude for anticipating events and presenting innovative solutions;

  • Commitment to achieving high standards and professionalism in carrying out one's duties.
  • Ability to be proactive and efficient in all aspects of their duties;
  • Leadership and ability to question current practices and systems in a positive way and make recommendations to senior management;
  • Be reliable and demonstrate tact and discretion;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation;
  • Ability to work effectively with little supervision and carry projects to completion independently, autonomy and initiative;
  • Be meticulous with an eye for details;
  • Team spirit and ability to provide quality service.
