Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 is a canadian cultural non-profitable organization that was founded in 1976 by the tenor Alain Nonat with the support of several famous personalities of the opera and dance world in Canada and in France. Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 decided to commit to making opera better appreciated and known to the general public, both youth and adults, to creating international exchanges of artists, and to supporting young opera singers to start an international career. Among its most notable achievements must be mentioned Si l’Opéra m’était conté, Le Festival de l’Opéra, Les Journées de la musique française, Les Rencontres musicales tchèques et slovaques, Les Rencontres lyriques internationales de Montréal, Les Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques and the creation of several exhibitions about composers, opera and dance.

Auditions are held every spring for canadians singers under 35 years of age in Montreal, Toronto and Victoria.
During these auditions an international committee which is composed of the leaders of the opera stage selects the most talented canadian singers.

Then, in the Fall, the laureates are given a unique opportunity to perform during the Rencontres lyriques internationales de Montréal and the Gala des Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques, both organized by Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20, in front of more than a dozen invited directors of lyric theatres.
As part of this training program, selected laureates enter the first round or directly the semi-finals of international signing competitions in which they represent Canada. Some of them are invited to begin internships, to take part in audition tours and in concert tours in Europe, Asia and Mexico.

Moreover, they can obtain engagements into concerts or in lyric theatre productions or in theatre companies in Europe, in Asia and in the Americas. Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 also financially supports the laureates by offering them bursaries which cover the transportation costs and sometimes a part of the living expenses.
