Mission

The Reference Center of Greater Montreal is an organization  non-profit organization whose mission since 1956 is to inform to help in developing and disseminating expertise of reference in the social field with individuals, stakeholders and community organizations. The Center helps more than 70,000 people every year through its telephone info-reference services in the fields socio-community, substance abuse and problem gambling.

Description

  • The Center assists by directing to the appropriate agency anyone seeking a response to their needs for income security, welfare, health, recreation, advocacy, etc .;
  • The Center periodically publishes five specialized directories on: Greater Montréal community services, private residences for independent seniors, community resources for homeless people, self-help groups and food resources for low-income people in Greater Montréal.

The first community information center in Canada opened in 1952 in Toronto, the second in Vancouver in 1953 and the third in Montreal on October 15, 1956. The latter was created at the request of the Federation of Charities of French-Canadian Charity who subsidized it entirely until 1972.

The history of the Reference Center can be summed up in 46 years of attentive listening, personalized communication, information and referral to meet the needs of 2,130,221 people in Greater Montréal for income security, welfare and to be, to health and leisure. To this number, we need to add 306,404 citizens from across Quebec who have contacted us over the last ten years through our specialized telephone services, totaling more than 2.4 million of our fellow citizens.

Reference-Seniors - 514 527-0007 - is provided by the Reference Center of Greater Montreal, a private non-profit organization that offers free services to the people of Greater Montreal since 1956 and whose mission is to Inform to Help.

Callers to Reference-Seniors primarily seek help with home care, shelter and financial assistance issues. To join Reference-Seniors. A free, bilingual and confidential service - call 514-527-0007 from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:30.

Telecounselling (excessive gambling) - The telecounselling program includes an evaluation interview and six one-hour telephone meetings on the following topics: motivation, finances, misconceptions, triggers, reorganize one's life, maintain heading, as well as three followed at various intervals. This short telephone therapy service is offered free of charge by the Greater Montreal Reference Center thanks to the financial support of the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services. Interested parties should contact Game Help and Referral at 1 800 461-0140.

Schedule

Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm DAR and GAME services are available 24 hours - 7 days.
