Founded in 1981, the Alzheimer Society of Montreal was the first Alzheimer Society to emerge in Quebec. As a charitable organization, it is one of 135 Alzheimer Societies in Canada today, 21 of which are located in Quebec. The latter are grouped into a Quebec Federation of Alzheimer Societies (FQSA), which is a member of the Alzheimer Society of Canada. This federation is also affiliated to the international organization "Alzheimer Disease International".
Today, the Alzheimer Society of Montreal realizes that in addition to its initial mandates associated with information, education, psychosocial support and the promotion of research, it must accelerate the influence it has may have on the practices of health professionals who work with people affected by the disease.
